Recent reports indicate that Google gets ready to set up shop in Singapore. Google has yet to confirm the reports, but it seems that Google plans on building the first research and development center in Southeast Asia. Google's director of Southeast Asian operations Richard Kimber told The Straits Times newspaper why Google would choose to develop a property there.

 
     

American searchers spent a lot of time in January hitting the search engines. ComScore said Americans made 6.9 billion searches for the month, with Google handling 3.3 billion of them. Those searches gave Google 47.5 percent of the market, and that was a little increase over their December share.

 
     

Jensense.com's Jennifer Slegg spoke at the Search Engine Strategies Conference in London about the importance of excellent content for maximizing traffic via the long tail of search. “Long tail search is less competitive and it narrows the market.” Marketers don't focus on the so-called “long tail” realm of keywords because keywords become less popular.

 
   
     
Microsoft’s chief software architect, Ray Ozzie, said the company received a much-needed wakeup call from Google. The billions in search advertising revenue that Google was raking in every quarter made Microsoft realize they hadn’t paid enough attention to that market. Ozzie told analysts and investors at a Goldman Sachs conference Microsoft would not copy Google’s search strategy or its releases of free, web-based productivity tools.
